2011-12 Season Recap
The first year under the new coaching staff went as well as could be expected. Ending the year with 21 wrestlers is a great start to building the type of program we hope to build in Rogers.
Throughout the year there were a couple of firsts for a Rogers Wrestling program. The first of which was taking first as a team in a tournament. The Royals won the St. Croix Lutheran tournament by almost 50 points collecting five individual champions along the way. The second was having two state entrants in the same year sending Clay LeVasseur at 195 and Philip Anderson at 126. Philip Anderson also set the single season records for wins (35) and pins (22). Along the way we also added two Most Valuable Wrestlers at tournaments; Clay LeVasseur at Spectrum and Kyler Swanson at St. Croix Lutheran.
The Royals had five wrestlers with over 20 wins on varsity: Anderson 35, Swanson 27, Tim Beach 23, LeVasseur 22, and Connor Larson with 21. Plus, eighth grader Andrew Peihl won the JV conference tournament at 220, which is a major accomplishment.
Overall, the team went 7-12 but that does not show the amount of growth this team showed throughout the year. All you have to do is look at what the new guys Owens, Lemcke, Bond, and Pavloff did this year to see how much the kids grew throughout the year. The kids showed so much heart and dedication throughout the year it will be exciting to see what the future holds for Rogers Wrestling.
